Beautiful Nuclear

On December 3rd, Eric Ingersoll, Founding Director and Co-CEO of the nonprofit Terra Praxis, will speak at the MIT Club of Northern California (MITCNC) Webinar. He will share a strategy and the progress underway to enable 10 TWe of clean energy to be deployed in 10 years, starting in 2030. He will provide a practical approach for repurposing coal plants - as well as other industrial energy infrastructure - cost-effectively, quickly and at scale.

This documentary examines the worldwide comeback of nuclear energy and its critical role in shaping future energy landscapes. This timely exploration comes as countries globally reassess their energy policies in light of climate change concerns and energy security challenges. Terra Praxis Co-CEO, Kirsty Gogan, was among the experts who was interviewed for this insightful documentary.

Terra Praxis was honored to participate and contribute to this invitation only conference, where the current impediments and potential solutions to enable nuclear power as part of the clean energy transition were discussed. The conference brought together prominent stakeholders from the global nuclear industry, policy makers, financial institutions, and academia, Terra Praxis was the only non-profit organization invited. The discussions served as a key input for a report the IEA is preparing scheduled for launch in early 2025.

Kirsty Gogan joined global leaders at the WEF Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development April 28-29 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The meeting brought together 700 leaders from all sectors and industries to participate in a comprehensive dialogue on leveraging global cooperation for economic development, promoting a global energy transition that underpins sustainable development and furthering technological advancement, supporting the Forum’s work to shape a more equitable and resilient global economy.

“The Summit built critical momentum for advanced nuclear and our global efforts to tackle climate change. The demand for clean energy is huge and the timeframe for decarbonization is short. This commitment of global leaders serves as a valuable starting point to double-down our efforts to design and implement scalable solutions that can be deployed by 2030,” stated Kirsty Gogan.

On March 21, 2024, government leaders and representatives from nuclear industry and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) gathered in Brussels for the International Atomic Energy Agency and Belgian government’s Nuclear Energy Summit, the world’s highest-level meeting on nuclear energy. At this critical juncture for action on climate change and energy security, 20 NGOs from around the globe jointly call for the efficient and responsible expansion of nuclear energy and advance six key principles for doing so, Terra Praxis is proud to be among them.

Terra Praxis' Beautiful Nuclear was featured at SXSW as part of the Beautiful Nuclear Exhibit hosted by Anthropocene, Generation Atomic, and Mothers for Nuclear. The exhibit showcased art celebrating how nuclear energy can help achieve all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The series features interviews with more than 30 top thought leaders, including journalist Michael Shellenberger, historian Patty Limerick, political scientist Roger Pielke Jr., civil rights leader Jennifer Hernandez, nuclear activist Chris Keefer, author Meredith Angwin, former IEA director Nobuo Tanaka, World Nuclear Association Director General Sama Bilbao y León, Campaign for a Green Nuclear Deal founder Madi Hilly, Terra Praxis Founding Partner and Co-CEO Kirsty Gogan, and many others. Each episode spotlights the misplaced incentives and excessive spending on weather-dependent generation sources that have weakened the grid and made electricity less affordable and less reliable in the U.S. and around the world.

At the COP28 Climate Conference in December 2023, more than 20 countries—including the US, the UK, France and Sweden—signed a declaration committing to a tripling of nuclear capacity by 2050.

Terra Praxis joined global leaders in addressing the climate emergency. Our purpose there was to share how, backed by collaborative partnerships, we plan to achieve our vision of universal access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy that empowers people and protects nature. 

This summit aimed to help the UK supply chain make the most of the opportunities in these programs worth hundreds of billions of pounds over the coming decades, supporting long-term growth, skilled jobs and enabling innovation while moving the UK towards net zero emissions. It brought together experts, manufacturers from across the country and leaders of the UK’s major nuclear programs, including Terra Praxis' Co-CEO, Kirsty Gogan.

Terra Praxis participated in the IAEA 2nd Conference on Climate Change. The conference themes included the mitigation challenge and implications for the energy sector; the climate-resilience of energy systems; the roles of existing, evolutionary, and innovative nuclear power systems as well as the integration of nuclear–renewable energy systems; enabling environments for realizing the full potential of nuclear power; and international cooperation and stakeholder engagement.

This film takes us on a journey to discover the possibilities that lie ahead as we address climate change in a pragmatic, non-polarized manner and transition to a new energy future. Kirsty Gogan was among the expert contributors.

Kirsty Gogan was interviewed to provide a potential answer to these staggering questions.
